Best Book Review Guide publishes independent book reviews, reading guides and literary recommendations. This page explains the standards we expect published work on this site to meet.
Editorial independence
Our opinions are our own. Publishers, authors, retailers and publicists do not get to approve a review before publication and cannot purchase a favourable verdict. Advertising and affiliate relationships do not determine which books receive positive coverage.
Review copies and disclosures
If a book, event ticket, subscription or other material benefit is provided in connection with coverage, the article should include a clear disclosure. Complimentary copies may make it possible for us to consider a title, but they do not guarantee publication or a positive review.
Accuracy and verification
Before publication, factual details such as author names, book titles and publication information should be checked against reliable sources. Interpretive judgments are clearly presented as editorial opinion. We aim not to state speculation as fact.
Originality
Reviews should contain original analysis and should not simply repackage publisher descriptions, retailer copy, jacket blurbs or other reviews. Short quotations may be used where appropriate for criticism or discussion, but we do not reproduce substantial copyrighted passages.
Spoilers
Where possible, reviews are written without revealing major twists or endings. If a piece requires substantial spoilers, we aim to make that clear before the relevant section.
Corrections
We correct substantive factual errors when they are brought to our attention. Minor edits for spelling, grammar, clarity and formatting may be made without a correction note. See our Corrections Policy for more information.
Commercial relationships
Some pages may contain advertising or affiliate links. Commercial relationships should be disclosed and should not alter the substance of our reviews. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
Updates
Older articles may be updated when new editions, translations, adaptations or other developments materially change what readers need to know. When an update significantly changes the substance of an article, we aim to make the revision clear.
